Dubai Libraries -The Al Ras Public Library in Dubai

The Al Ras Public Library in Dubai

Dubai: Using 462,000 novels lining shelves across the city, the public libraries of Dubai offer an essential service to the town's residents.

In many ways, the libraries' narrative is the narrative of Dubai itself. It begins overlooking the creek, constructed under the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum's behest in 1963. Nowadays there are eight public libraries around Dubai.

"As a part of this Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, the Dubai public libraries try to supplement the unbelievable progress of the emirate and the country in every field, particularly that of culture and knowledge," says Abdulrahman Ibrahim, the director of their libraries. To this end, the libraries' collection climbed 8.7 percent in 2012, getting over 37,000 new substance over the last year, such as books, CDs and other substances. A lot of these come in book fairs, and the Dubai libraries are to international campuses as well as fairs in Sharjah and Abu Dhabi in Italy and Madrid.
Ibrahim says that the libraries employ a deft hand in choosing new materials, "taking into consideration the diversity of the Dubai Public Libraries' customers in terms of age, culture, language, and education...while maintaining the UAE's Arab and Islamic identity." Bearing that in mind, there is an emphasis in the libraries on work that's locally printed by Emirati authors, which the libraries make broadly available within the area in addition to the UAE, exchanging them.

Children occupy a significant part of the libraries' resources, using a whole branch of their libraries' services. With the exception of the library at Al Ras, all the libraries have children's sections, and public and private colleges often arrange visits to the libraries.

"The children's libraries are among the most important associations that impact a child's character and their abilities and abilities," acknowledges the libraries' pamphlet, along with the libraries have taken this notion to heart. Children's libraries provide a number such as holding different competitions in knowledge and painting viewing videos and coordinating training sessions and workshops for kids.
Additionally, the libraries hold multipurpose rooms and study rooms to provide a more private space for library users to study or work.

Ibrahim says that the libraries are constantly looking to improve their services. Dubai libraries were among the first in the region to move to a fully automated system, implementing an electronic indexing system in the late 1990s, and they continue to move towards the latest in library technologies
